The Gunners travel across north London this weekend hoping to take advantage of Spurs' current wigan athletic poor run of form after back-to-back defeats to Chelsea and Benfica. The losses have heaped the pressure on Sherwood, who has reportedly split the camp at White Hart Lane with his decision to brand his squad "gutless" in the wake of recent poor performances. The 45-year-old has only been in charge for three months but rumours are already beginning to emerge suggesting wigan athletic chairman Daniel Levy will bring the curtain down on Sherwood's reign in the summer. Wenger, though, believes it would be wrong to wield the axe and feels that young English managers need to be given more time to prove themselves. "I don't know Sherwood as a coach. I knew him as a player because I am a long time in this job. He was a committed guy on the pitch and I like the fact that he has learned his job and gets his chance," said Wenger. "In England you rightly complain that young managers don't get a chance. When you get one you have to support him."
