Day 3 had typical Kearsney weather. You know, misty, rainy with you wishing that you had worn closed shoes and brought a thicker mark webber jacket. The queue for the coffee tent was longer than the one at the beer tent. At one time, just about no players on the field were visible from the stands, forget about being able to see the ball; all you could see was mist. A spectator shouted It s a white out and for once Eskom couldn t be blamed for our lack of visual stimulation.
The first match between mark webber Dale College & Paul Roos saw the scores equalize with about 5 minutes to go. Looking at the score, you wouldn t realize mark webber how much fun the Glenwood match was to watch; especially seeing the scrumhalf, Mtokosizi Mkhabele score his second try of the match was especially entertaining and had me jump to my feet. Westville won their first match of the tournament; Keegan Paverd scored a great goal the agility and speed of this grade 11 player makes him someone to keep an eye on in the future.
During lunch the spectators had a glimpse of the future stars with Glenwood Prepatory taking on and beating Merchiston Preparatory. These youngsters were determined mark webber to show everybody what they re made of great determination and athletic ability.
After lunch it was Paarl Gymnasium that once again put on a great performance. This team s # 10, the flyhalf Handre Pollard had the highest personal score of the tournament, an amazing 52 points in 3 matches. This young man can kick and in the 1st half of this match he out maneuvered his opponent to score a great try not the only try for him in this match.
Next, Affies showed why they were the only team to win all three their matches. The last game of the day and tournament was between Monument and Grey College. At half time, the scoreboard was still 0-0. Finally, Grey College managed to win this match with a penalty kick and a try.
Three players were awarded Sharks Academy contracts and bursaries from Varsity College Tom Siyabonga from Glenwood High School, Nqoba Mxoli from Westville Boys High and Wion Robertse from Paarl Gymnasium.
